FortisAlberta employees celebrate Rocky Mountain House bike park opening

Sep 28, 2026, 22:00 PM

On Sept. 26, FortisAlberta employees joined members of the Rocky Mountain House community to celebrate the official opening of a new bike park and pump track. And while the weather was cool and wet, it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of community members celebrating the new park!

The bike park and pump track received a $5,000 FortisAlberta Communities in Action grant in 2024. Local Operation Lead, Nic, saw an opportunity to support active living and outdoor recreation in his community and brought the project forward for funding consideration.

What started as a grassroots initiative by the Rocky Mountain Bike Park Society grew into a well-supported project backed by residents, businesses and local governments throughout the region.

The resulting Rocky Mountain House Pump Track is the largest in Alberta and the third-largest in Western Canada. It features an advanced pump track, an accessible beginner track and a skills park designed for riders of all ages and abilities.

To celebrate the official opening, FortisAlberta hosted a barbecue for community members, serving food to more than 300 people. The event also included remarks from community leaders, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and activities throughout the day.

Earlier in the week, the Rocky Mountain House crew volunteered their time to install the new signage around the park.

The project demonstrates the impact employee leadership and community partnerships can have in creating spaces that bring people together and strengthen Alberta communities.
