Safety

At FortisAlberta safety is our number one priority. It is important to know how you can stay safe at home, work, school and on the farm. Call us at 310-WIRE (9473) if you spot a downed power line, contact a line or have any questions about power line safety.

Downed Power Lines

If your vehicle has been involved in an accident with an electrical pole or transformer:

  • Be cautious. Assume the vehicle and anything touching it is energized.
  • Do not move or exit. Stay inside until help arrives unless there is a fire.
  • In the event of a fire jump with both feet together. Never contact the ground and your vehicle at the same time.

Farm Safety

It's easy to forget to watch for power lines especially on your own land or when transporting equipment.

The growing size of farm equipment, road conditions and even weather can impact safe power line clearances. Know the height of your equipment and remember to plan for safety by looking up, down and all around.

If you are unsure of how close you can get to a power line, call us at 310-WIRE (9473).
