How does your work make a positive impact for customers?

My work helps make sure customers receive safe and reliable electricity. Whether we are responding to an outage, connecting a new customer or completing planned work, our focus is on doing the job safely and keeping customers connected.

What might surprise people about your job?

No two days are the same. I might change a meter, connect a new customer or work on an energized power line. We also respond to trouble calls. In our area, frost on power lines can cause outages in winter, while lightning storms can create challenges in spring and summer.

What is one memorable project from your time at FortisAlberta?

One of my most memorable jobs was rebuilding the power line that serves the ski lodge at Mount Norquay. Because there was no truck access, we used a helicopter to set the poles. The mountain setting and wildlife made it a project I will always remember.

How does your team help reduce wildfire risk?

Each year, we patrol higher-risk areas to inspect power lines and identify concerns. We have also installed specialized fuses in these areas. FortisAlberta monitors weather conditions and can adjust protective equipment when wildfire risk is high. We complete annual repairs and keep our trucks stocked with the right firefighting tools. These actions help reduce risk and support a safe response.

How do you prepare for the day?

I start with my MoveSafe routine, then have a quick coffee and conversation with my co-workers about the work ahead. It helps us begin the day with a shared understanding of the plan and a focus on safety.

What is your favourite part of the work?

Restoring electricity for customers is the most rewarding part of my job. Customers are often relieved to see our truck arrive, and it feels good to help get their electricity back on safely.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

You can usually find me at a hockey rink coaching my kids, watching a dance recital or cheering them on at ball, soccer or dance. In summer, I enjoy golfing and camping with my family. I also serve on the local minor hockey and golf course boards and volunteer as a firefighter.
