FortisAlberta partners with Kids Included to build emPOWER Cars for children with mobility challenges
Jun 3, 2026, 15:20 PMFortisAlberta was proud to partner with Kids Included on May 28 to support the emPOWER Car Project, helping build custom mobility cars for five young children with disabilities across our service area.
Held at FortisAlberta’s Sherwood Park location, the emPOWER Car Build Day brought employees together to assemble accessible ride-on vehicles designed to give children greater independence and early access to movement and exploration.
“Families tell us the emPOWER Cars are game changers. They’re portable, fit inside homes and, best of all, get kids moving,” said Amber Mack, CEO of Kids Included.
FortisAlberta supported the initiative through a $5,000 donation and hands-on employee volunteer participation, reflecting the company’s commitment to inclusion, accessibility and building stronger communities.
More than a mobility device, each emPOWER Car is carefully adapted to meet the unique needs of a child. Developed with support from engineers connected through APEGA and Bennu Product Development, the vehicles help children move, play and participate more fully in everyday activities, often for the first time.
Kids Included is an Alberta-based non-profit organization that supports young children with disabilities and their families through inclusive early learning, professional development and supports in everyday routines. The organization’s work focuses on removing barriers and creating opportunities for all children to learn, participate and belong in their communities.
Thanks to the dedication of FortisAlberta volunteers, five completed emPOWER Cars are now ready to roll, each one opening new opportunities for movement, play and independence.
