Devon Service Upgrade

Town of Devon electricity distribution and telecommunications upgrade

As the electricity distribution system provider for the Town of Devon, we operate the street lights, meters, power poles and wires, that distribute electricity throughout your town.

FortisAlberta will be completing a series of electricity distribution system upgrades in the Town of Devon to support third-party telecommunications infrastructure improvements. Work will include pole replacements, underground cable modifications and related system upgrades.

Construction is scheduled to take place from September through December 2026 and will be completed in phases throughout the community.

Once complete, the project will provide several benefits, including:

  • Improved reliability through the replacement of aging electrical equipment
  • Fewer maintenance and wildlife-related outages due to enhanced safety, design and equipment standards
  • Increased clearance between power lines and roadways or back alleys, helping improve public safety
  • Infrastructure that supports future residential, agricultural, commercial and industrial growth in the community

Work on this project will be completed in six stages.

Stages, details and dates (weather dependent)

Stage 1: Sept. 8 - 15
Stage 2: Sept. 16 - 26
Stage 3: Sept. 27 - Oct. 21
Stage 4: Oct. 21 - 25
Stage 5: Oct. 25 - Nov. 18
Stage 6: Nov. 19 - Dec. 17

Throughout this project, you may notice the following in your area:

  • In certain areas, you may see workers clearing debris from poles scheduled for replacement
  • FortisAlberta crews and contractors, along with clearly marked vehicles
  • Staking or flagging in areas scheduled for upcoming work
  • Alleys blocked off during work hours for equipment and safe work zones
  • Signs placed in work areas or streets marking zones for crews to salvage poles

Where possible, we recommend customers remove yard features, personal items, vehicles or other potential obstructions from areas where poles will be replaced.

For us to work safely, customers within these areas may experience brief planned power outages. If you are affected, you will be notified by our Customer Care Centre by phone 48 hours in advance, so it is important that your retailer (the company that issues your bill) has your current phone contact information.

This work is part of our ongoing commitment to delivering safe and reliable electricity while supporting the evolving needs of the communities we serve.

We appreciate your cooperation and apologize for any inconvenience this work may cause. Please maintain a safe distance from workers and work sites.
