Welcome to our newest customers

Nov 1, 2019, 15:18 PM

In November, we will begin the transfer of several electrical facilities to FortisAlberta.

In 2018, the Alberta Utility Commission (AUC) issued a decision approving FortisAlberta’s application to alter the service areas of Rural Electrification Associations (REA) to align with the corporate boundaries of municipalities that recently concluded an annexation. In the decision, the AUC stated one of the conditions when the transfer of assets would occur was once the municipality passed a bylaw prohibiting other persons from providing the same or similar service as FortisAlberta within the municipality.

Some of the affected municipalities have now passed their bylaws that allows us to begin the transfer process. Over the next few weeks, we will be working with the designated REAs (EQUS REA, Wild Rose REA, Battle River Power Coop, Northland Power REA, and West Wetaskiwin REA) to transfer these new services while ensuring the transition is as seamless as possible to our new customers.

As we welcome our new customers, we will be reaching out assuring they recognize the importance of having a local power provider, and we commit to doing just that.
