A retailer sells or provides electricity services directly to the customer. The retailer may be independent or affiliated with a wire owner. A customer may also act as a self-retailer by carrying out retailer functions to obtain electricity solely for the customer’s own use. The retailer offering services to FortisAlberta’s customers depends on where they live and the type of consumer they are.

This area of our website provides information about the electrical retail business and is intended for current and prospective retailers, self-retailers and agents. Documents available include the rules and regulations which apply to retailers and self-retailers, in addition to the applications and agreements necessary for qualifying as a retailer and or self-retailer.

Below is the information required to:

  • apply for and become a retailer or self-retailer with FortisAlberta;
  • understand FortisAlberta’s tariff tools; and,
  • understand Tariff Billing Code-related tools.
