On the Farm

Farmers and ranchers must be aware of electrical hazards of both overhead and underground power lines. Farm equipment is getting bigger all of the time which makes knowing your clearance even more important.

If you are unsure, stay at least 7 metres away from the power line. Call us at 310-WIRE if you need us to assess the clearance, or lift or move a power line. See "Power Line Clearances".

Know the height of your equipment.

  • Lower grain augers. Call us before moving overheight loads like bins.

Stack it safely.

  •  Large haystacks can be inviting for kids who may climb too near a power line.

Watch your trees.

  • Be careful when pruning - a wire could be hiding in a branch.

Be careful before you dig.

  • Call Alberta One-Call at 1-800-242-3447.
