New service

If your business is in FortisAlberta's service area, we are your first contact when you need to establish a new electrical service. We provide new connections including new site set-ups and construction of electrical facilities.

Reconnecting an existing service

If you are simply reconnecting an existing service, then you only need to call your electricity Retailer. Your Retailer will contact FortisAlberta regarding all reconnections and meter installations.

Steps to new electricity service

Our goal is to make sure your new connection is established and ready to power your project or business when you need it.

Here are the steps to new service:

  • Customer calls 310-WIRE or fills out our online form
  • Customer contacts FortisAlberta to request a new power service or change to an existing service
  • Customer completes the online Service Request Form. Alternatively, customers can complete the Excel Form and fax it to (403) 514-4415 or e-mail fortisnewconnects@fortisalberta.com. Please be sure to include the additional documents requested on the form.

Guidelines for electrical installations

If you are doing electrical installations within FortisAlberta's service area, you will need to ensure that your installation will be satisfactory to both the inspection authority and FortisAlberta. We cannot energize service entrance or switch-gear equipment until its design, construction, location and application are acceptable to both the inspection authority and FortisAlberta.

The Alberta Service & Metering Guide provides information about most of the possible installations encountered on the FortisAlberta system. If your installation does not meet the requirements covered in this publication, please refer to the section on "Non-Standard Services".

To arrange an inspection of an installation, contact FortisAlberta toll-free at 310-WIRE (310-9473).
